It's invaluable! Whether you're new or have an established practice, keeping a log of your activity on a monthly planner is an excellent way for you to stay accountable, organised and motivated!
If not, the inevitable happens and you start questioning yourself, "What did I do the other day?" and "How many times have I worked on my core this week?, or this month?" In fact, "How many times did I actually show up to my mat this month?" A nightmare when you've been putting in the time and effort for yourself. Arrggh!
I've been there and it's very frustrating. Without writing my yoga practice down every day, I wouldn't know what I did two days ago, let alone three weeks ago!
To help you with this, I've designed a monthly planner that you'll be able to print off each month. You can find it here. Make this work for you and record your practice. If you enjoy mindfulness colouring you could personalise it too! This is how I got creative with mine for February.
Write It, See It, Believe It! (Yes you did it!)
I review my yoga practice over the whole month. l choose my yoga flows in the moment by listening to what my body needs each morning. Keeping a Yoga practice log enables me to make sure I balance out my flows and schedule in my practice time. I can effectively keep myself on track with any specific skills and drills I am working on. I also like to see how many hours I've flowed each week and over the entire month.
Doing this gives a huge sense of achievement! (Yay!) Tracking progression is essential and the best motivator. You can see what has been successful for you, what you've enjoyed, if anything is not working and use this to make any adjustments you need.
You'll be able to advance your practice when the time is right, continuing to show up on your mat and staying consistent. (which is key!)
I am very protective of my monthly planner, it's an integral part of my routine, plus It's satisfying to fill it in each day!
